Teachers as Researchers

Classroom Inquiry and Action Research

A growing number of teachers are realizing how much they have to learn from their students. The Teachers as Researcher group puts that realization into action. The group is designed to support teachers who wish to enhance their practice by conducting reflective inquiry and classroom research. Teachers who are curious about how students learn and eager to learn about the art of teacher research are invited to join.

If you are new to classroom research, Teachers as Researchers offers an encouraging environment where you can learn the fundamentals, such as developing a reflective view of your classroom, identifying an area of interest and a burning question, developing a method to gather data, and applying your findings to your teaching.

If you are already conducting classroom research, the group offers a community of like-minded colleagues who will encourage you to take the next steps. These steps may include sharing your story with colleagues in your district or at conferences, developing a teacher-researcher group in your building or school district, or publishing your findings in an article.

Because teacher research is most powerful when it is a collective endeavor, all participants are encouraged to attend with a partner or school team. Linda Denstaedt, an experienced teacher-researcher and a member of the Oakland Writing Project Advisory Board, will facilitate, along with a team of other teacher-researchers. Linda will be happy to discuss the groups’ work with you and answer any questions you have.
