Deconstructing Reluctance: Building Better Readers and Writers

What helps student grow as readers and writers? What inhibits that growth? Two teachers and a researcher will team up to talk about how this question gets answered in two different classrooms. This session will focus on how each of the two teachers with the help of a researcher began to look at ways in which reluctance is constructed in their classrooms, and how each began to find ways to break down that reluctance. This conversation will use student samples and suggest practical applications for the classroom based on their research.
